Welcome to the official page of the Nativa Foundation, we are an organization that helps with the Nature`s preservation, specially of the species in danger of extinction all over the Colombian territory.

1º FESTIVAL OF THE TAPIR (DANTA)

This festival is a new space, initially in the community of Palomino, Guajira, organized by the Colombia Tapir Fund of the Nativa Foundation. It looks forward to socialize, within the activities of conservation for the Tapir in Colombia, the pictures taken by the natives and farmers in the monitoring of the Tapir and the associated biodiversity, by means of trap photograph cameras and digital cameras as well.

The programmed activities are: Street exhibition of the photographs from the 19 to the 22 of December in Palomino, Guajira, and Rafting by the Palomino River, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 of December in the morning. Saturday at night, live presentation of the Vallenato group at the central park of Palomino.

Later, this festival will become a traveling national photographic exhibition, which looks forward to attract the attention towards this work of preservation done by the Colombian natives.

In association with Tanimboca in Leticia, Amazonas, the Nativa Foundation has initiated the exhibition of a collection of living animals from Colombian Amazonas, mainly serpents, lizards, turtles, amphibians and other species within the natural reserve property of Tanimboca, with conservationist intention, conducting educative and scientific actions.

AICA 004 San Salvador

The program of the important areas for the preservation of AICA birds of Birdlife International is a focused global initiative in the identification, documentation and conservation of a network of critical sites for the birds of the world (Birdlife, 2005).
The Nativa Foundation is present in the Buena Vista Natural Reservation of the Ecological Group Defending of the Nature, at the scientific station of Wimangaga, in the middle of the AICA at the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, where the monitoring of the birds is developed. In this AICA, 374 species of resident and migratory birds, like 15 endemic ones have been registered (Strewe and Navarro 2003).

Dantas or Tapirs

Colombia is the only country in the world that houses the three species of Dantas or Tapirs of America, living in wild state within its territory.
In such sense, the Nativa Foundation dedicates its efforts to the national conservation of these animals and their habitat like umbrella species for the biodiversity of the country.

Being the first snake house in its sort, it has allowed a more personal approach and diffusion about the Colombian serpents and first aid of the ophidian accident in many distant towns of our country.

Our main function is to serve as an academic and scientific support to schools and Universities on the serpent’s subject, their poisons and ophidian accidents, being the current owner of 50 species and more than 500 living animals.
